Bold text that survives copy and paste
Most apps only let you make text bold inside their own editor. As soon as you copy it somewhere else, the bold disappears, because bold formatting is an instruction to the app, not part of the letters themselves.
The styles on this page are different. Each letter is replaced with a character that is already bold, taken from Unicode's "Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols" block. That block was created so mathematicians could write symbols like ðą and ðŊ in a way computers keep apart. Because these characters are bold by design, they stay bold wherever you paste them.
Which bold style should I pick?
| Style | Looks like | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Bold serif | ðððð§ð ðĻðŪð | Classic, formal headings and quotes |
| Bold sans | ðĶððŪðŧðą ðžðð | Clean, modern bios and captions |
| Bold italic | ðšðððð ððð | Emphasis with a little movement |
| Bold cursive | ðĒð―ðŠð·ð ðļðūð― | Names and elegant titles |
| Bold gothic | ðūðððð ððð | Gamer tags and dramatic headings |
Where bold text helps
- One line, not the whole post. A bold first line works like a headline. A fully bold caption is tiring to read.
- Section labels in a bio: ðŠðžðŋðļ: ððķðŧðļð: ððžðŧððŪð°ð: followed by plain text.
- Prices or dates in a listing, so they catch the eye.
The catch
Bold letters are separate characters, so search won't match them to normal words, and hashtags written in bold usually won't work as hashtags. Screen readers may read them oddly too. Keep names, keywords and anything important in normal text, and use bold for decoration.
Numbers work in most bold styles (ððð), but punctuation and emoji stay as they are.
Want something softer? Try italic text or cursive letters. To cross words out, use the strikethrough generator.
Boldface for Facebook and other sites
Many sites have no bold button, and that is where this tool helps. A bold post on Facebook (sometimes written FB) works the same way as on any other site: copy the bold letters here and paste them in. There is a page tuned for that, with ready examples, at Facebook fonts.
