Invisible character

Blank characters you can copy in one tap, for empty names, blank messages and extra spacing.

What an invisible character is

An invisible character is a real Unicode character that doesn't draw anything on screen. To an app, it counts as text. To a person, it looks empty. That makes it handy for blank names, empty-looking messages, extra spaces and line breaks that apps would otherwise remove.

The characters above all look blank but behave differently. Some take up the width of a letter, some are a normal space that apps keep, and some have no width at all.

How to use one

  1. Tap Copy next to a character above.
  2. Paste it into the name, message or field you want.
  3. If the app rejects it or removes it, come back and try the next one.

Common uses

  • A blank-looking name in apps and games that accept it.
  • Spacing in a bio: many apps delete empty lines. Put a Braille blank on the empty line and the gap stays.
  • Centring or indenting a short line with wide spaces.
  • Keeping two words together with a no-break space, so they never split across lines.

Which one to try first

For names, start with the Hangul filler or the Braille blank. Both behave like a letter, so apps are less likely to treat them as empty. For spacing inside text, use the em space or ideographic space. Use the zero-width space when you need a break point with no visible gap.

When it won't work

Many apps deliberately block blank names, because empty names can be confusing or used to hide who is talking. If every character is rejected, the app doesn't allow it and you'll need at least one visible character. Please don't use invisible characters to impersonate people, dodge moderation or break community rules.

Questions people ask

Which invisible character should I try first?

Start with the Hangul filler or the Braille blank. They take up space like a letter, so apps are less likely to remove them. If one is rejected, try the next.

Why does the app say my name is empty?

Some apps remove invisible characters to stop blank names. In that case no character will work there, and you will need at least one visible letter.
