What GlyphKite is
GlyphKite is a free website for styling text. You can turn your words into dozens of fancy styles, copy kaomoji faces and symbols, find invisible characters and make ASCII art banners, all with a single tap and no account.
GlyphKite is built and looked after by the GlyphKite team. New styles, symbols and tools are added over time.
How the tools work
The text styles aren't fonts. They use characters from the Unicode standard, the system every modern phone and computer uses to show text in every language. Unicode includes many letter-like characters, such as the bold and script letters made for mathematics, circled letters, small capitals and combining marks. GlyphKite matches each letter you type to its styled look-alike, so the style stays when you paste it anywhere else.
Each page also explains how its style works, where it tends to work well and what its limits are, such as letters that are missing from a style or apps that don't accept special characters.
Your text stays on your device
Everything you type is converted inside your own browser. Your text isn't sent to our server or stored by us. GlyphKite remembers a few things, like your last text, your favourite styles and your light or dark theme choice, only in your own browser so they're ready next time. You can clear them at any time by clearing your browser's site data. See the privacy policy for details, including how advertising works on this site.
How GlyphKite is funded
The site is free to use and is supported by advertising. Ads never change how the tools work, and you never need to sign up or pay.
Suggestions and corrections
If a style looks wrong on your device, a symbol is missing, or you have an idea for a new tool, please get in touch. Reports like these help make the tools better for everyone.
What you can find here
The site is organised into a few simple groups, so you can go straight to what you need.
- Text styles. More than 130 styles, from bold, italic and cursive to gothic, small text, bubble, upside down, strikethrough and glitch. Pages such as Discord fonts, Instagram fonts and gaming names pick the styles that suit those uses.
- Kaomoji. Japanese-style text faces such as (◕‿◕), sorted into groups like happy, love, cat and shrug, with search.
- Symbols. Copy-and-paste hearts, stars, arrows, check marks and more.
- Utilities. An invisible character copier for blank names and spacing, and an ASCII art banner maker.
How we decide what goes on the site
We add a style or symbol only when it can be copied as real characters and shown on common phones and computers. Some characters look fine in one app and turn into empty boxes in another, so we leave out rare ones and keep a note on each page about where a style may not display. We also keep names, labels and examples respectful: we avoid names and labels that could offend any group of people.
The explanations on each page are written to be useful on their own, not to repeat keywords. If a guide doesn't answer a question you had, tell us and we'll improve it.
Who the tools are for
People use GlyphKite for social media bios and captions, usernames and display names, gaming tags, chat servers, messages to friends, posters, school projects and small design touches. The tools are meant to be quick: type, tap, paste.
Where fancy text can cause problems
Fancy text is made of special characters, not a font, so a few limits are worth knowing:
- Screen readers. Many assistive tools read styled characters badly or skip them. For anything important, such as a name people must be able to find, a link or instructions, use plain text and keep styled text for decoration.
- Search and sorting. Styled letters are different characters from normal letters, so they may not show up when someone searches for the plain word.
- Display. A few apps or older devices may show a box in place of a rare character. Try another style if that happens.
- Platform rules. Some sites limit special characters in usernames. If a name is rejected, choose a simpler style.
Accessibility and speed
GlyphKite works with a keyboard, has a light and a dark theme, and is built to load fast on a phone without installing anything. The tools are plain code that runs in your browser, so they keep working even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.
