Text hearts and emoji hearts
There are two kinds of hearts on this page. Text hearts like ♡, ♥, ❥ and ღ take on the colour of your text, so they look neat inside a sentence or next to a name. Emoji hearts like 💕 and 💜 are small coloured pictures, and each platform draws them in its own style.
Meet the hearts
- ♡ and ♥ are the white and black hearts from a deck of playing cards.
- ❤ is a heavy heart. Some phones turn it into a red emoji, others keep it as text.
- ❥ and ❣ are decorative hearts with a curly tail or an exclamation point.
- ღ is a letter of the Georgian alphabet that happens to look like a little heart.
- ෆ is a Sinhala letter that people use as a cute heart.
- ʚ♡ɞ, ꒰♡꒱ and 𓆩♡𓆪 are combinations that give a heart wings or a frame.
Heart emoji colours and what people use them for
| Heart | Often used for |
|---|---|
| ❤️ 💗 💖 | Love, thanks and big excitement |
| 💜 💙 💚 💛 🧡 | Friendship, fan groups and team colours |
| 🤍 🩷 🩵 | Soft, pastel and aesthetic bios |
| 🖤 💔 | Moody posts, sadness and heartbreak |
| ❤️🔥 ❤️🩹 | Passion, and healing after a hard time |
Newer hearts like 🩷 and 🩵 may show as a box on older phones. The text hearts ♡ ♥ ❤ work almost everywhere.
How to type a heart without copying

Text hearts sit nicely next to cursive names and aesthetic fonts. For hearts with faces, see the love kaomoji.
Heart icons that are text
A heart icon in text is lighter than an emoji and takes the colour of the words around it. That makes ♡ and ❤ a good fit for bios, captions and signatures, where a coloured emoji would look too loud.
