Sad kaomoji, from a pout to full tears
A crying emoticon says a lot in a few characters. Sometimes a sad emoji feels too blunt and words feel too heavy. Sad kaomoji sit in between. A small (´・_・`) says "oh no", (。•́︿•̀。) is a sulky pout, and (╥﹏╥) or (ಥ﹏ಥ) are proper crying with streams of tears.
How tears are drawn
- T and ╥ are eyes with tears running down: (T_T), (╥﹏╥).
- ಥ is a Kannada letter that looks like a teary eye.
- ; on the face is a single tear or sweat drop.
- ︿ and ﹏ make a wobbly, upset mouth.
When to use them
Sad kaomoji are best for small, everyday disappointments: a cancelled plan, the last slice of pizza gone, a game lost on the final level. They add a playful touch that tells people you're down but okay.
For serious news, plain words are usually kinder than any face.

From a little sad to very sad
| How sad? | Try |
|---|---|
| A small "oh no" | (´・_・`) · (._.) · (-_-) |
| Pouting or sulking | (。•́︿•̀。) · (︶︹︺) · (。ŏ_ŏ) |
| Teary | (╥_╥) · (;ω;) · (ㄒoㄒ) |
| Full crying | (╥﹏╥) · (ಥ﹏ಥ) · (ノД`)・゜・。 |
| Asking for comfort | (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ · (っ◞‸◟c) |
Using sad faces kindly
Sad kaomoji soften small disappointments and make a message feel less blunt: "can't make it tonight (。•́︿•̀。)" reads gentler than the words alone. They're also a light way to ask for sympathy without making a big deal of it.
When a friend shares something sad, answering with a hug like (っ´▽`)っ from the love kaomoji often lands better than another crying face.
Sorry and bowing
An apology can be sad and polite at once. A bow like m(_ _)m says sorry, thank you or please, depending on the message, and it pairs well with a small (´・_・`). If you want a stronger apology, add a few words too.
